Types of baby blankets


There are so many options available when choosing a baby blanket and it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between them all.  Baby blankets come in all shapes, sizes, fabrics and colours. Some come with personal touches to make them unique. Some baby blankets come in exciting patterns and colours, some with countless details that make them special. Some can even be personalized specifically for your baby with the name embroidered on it. But this is not common and not many suppliers would like to cater for this. 

It is important to know what types of baby blankets are out there and what they are used for and how they differ from each other. It is good to be aware the uses of each type. Basically, there are four different types of baby blankets.


1. Receiving blanket
 
The most versatile and most functional baby blankets is the receiving blankets. There are many uses of receiving blankets. The receiving blankets are usually about 75cm x 75cm in size and can be used for multi purposes. It can be used as a 

* As a nursing cover when breastfeeding your baby
* As a handy burp cloth
* As a baby wrap
* As a light baby blanket on a stroll out to keep your baby warm
* As a stroller cover
 * As a changing table cover, the baby blanket provides comfort for your baby
* As a play mat to provide a soft surface during playtime
* Keeping your baby warm after a bath.

2. Security blanket

Security blanket provides a form of comfort for the baby. They are usually made of soft plush or fleece. Children tend to hold on to them and take them into the toddlers age. It provides a good memory and some form of security for them.

3. Swaddling blanket

Similar to security blanket, they provide comfort, calm and relaxation for the baby by keeping him wrapped up. The main difference is that swaddling blanket may or may not have attachment to make to easy to swaddle the baby. This is usually bigger compared to receiving blanket so that it is easier to wrap and swaddle the baby. Some have the top remain wrapped and bottom can be undone for diaper change. It keeps the baby cozy while he sleeps.

4. Crib blanket

These are baby blankets for the crib. It is available in many types such as crib sheets, blanket or bedding sets. Be sure to choose crib bedding based on safety and comfort and not on style.  And it is important to take note that you should never use a baby blanket on the baby while he sleeps to avoid sudden infant death.
